What is a “SoDak?” If you are familiar with the Great Plains, you might recognize “SoDak” as a nickname for South Dakota. Here in the Great Northeast however, “SoDak” is the name of a new Young Life area.
Last year about this time, we began the process of splitting one Young Life area (The Capital Region) into two separate ones. The northern part of the area, which includes our ministries in Queensbury, Argyle, South Glens Falls and at SUNY Adiriondack, is now called Southern Adirondack Young Life. (SoDak for short).
The SoDak Young Life team is led by Kyle Esposito who is now in his second year on Young Life field staff. Kyle and his wife Erin moved to the Glens Falls area after living in Saranac Lake and serving on camp staff at Saranac Village.
One of my favorite responsibilities as an Area Developer over the past year has been training and equipping Kyle for the work of being an Area Director. Kyle’s leadership and ministry is marked by a clear, singular focus on Jesus Christ, and on creating an atmosphere where people discover the reality of Jesus for themselves. Kyle and Erin operate together as a ministry team, and it has been a blessing to watch them encourage and support each other in this season of transition. Already well into his two-year staff training, Kyle will complete his training requirements later this year. At that point, he will begin to function independently as an Area Director.
We created the SoDak area to better serve our existing teams and ministries, and also to make it possible to reach kids in new communities in the Southern Adirondack area. It is personally encouraging to me that the Lord would call and send a couple so committed and gifted to do just that.
